Maybe you’ve noticed, but I’m kind of a lifestyle guy. I design my days, weeks and months around how I want to live.
This also means that I only pursue business ideas that fit into my ideal lifestyle. If I identify a great business opportunity that doesn’t match how I want to live, I pass on it. I’m not willing to sacrifice how I want to live for more dolla billz. And because I put lifestyle first, I pass on many business opportunities.
The tweet below from Tren Griffin seems to outline a lifestyle business:
If you have your own business, does it meet these criteria? If not, is there a way you can change your business so that it does? Or can you start a new lifestyle business to complement your existing business? Over time, as you build your new lifestyle business, you may be able to phase out your non-lifestyle business.
The crazy part about all of this is that I had previously built the perfect lifestyle business. The problem was that I didn’t see this particular business as the best lifestyle business. I didn’t truly understand the business’s power, so I let it go. Thankfully, I do see its power now.
Why am I yapping on about all of this?
Because I’m older and wiser now. I’ve learned to properly value my time and have come to the conclusion that…
The only business that makes sense to own is a lifestyle business.
As far as we know it, we only have one shot at this thing called life. Why build a non-lifestyle business? Why continue owning a non-lifestyle business? Why work for a non-lifestyle business?
Why continue trading your life away?
It’s the only one you’ve got.
